Meet Brentwood’s Sleep Dentist, Dr. Kellye Rice
Sleep apnea is a devastating sleep disorder that has affected my life in various ways. I first discovered I was a sleep apnea sufferer shortly after I began my sleep dentistry training in 2012. I had been suffering for years, but no physician ever recommended a sleep test for me. So, after learning all about sleep apnea and correlating my sleep deprivation with common symptoms of the condition, I took it on myself and received an official diagnosis in 2013.
However, before I knew all the scientific facts and risks related to sleep apnea, something much more personal had affected me. In 2007, an unexpected tragedy changed mine and my family’s life when my younger sister was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and passed away in her sleep. Her passing encouraged me to explore sleep apnea and alternative methods of treating the condition because she had been waiting for her CPAP machine, but unfortunately never got it in time.
Since then, I have been dedicated to discovering the benefits and effects that oral appliances and laser procedures can provide to sleep apnea patients, including myself. Now, as a member of the American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine, I am one of only a few hundred dentists in the United States certified in Fotona Twin Laser treatments for snoring and sleep apnea.

Education & Personal Interests
After graduating from the University of Alabama Birmingham Dental School in 1986, I opened my own practice here in the Cool Springs area. I spent the first decades of my career fully committed to learning about the treatment of TMJ and cosmetics, but, because of my personal experiences, I later realized my passion in dentistry was to help treat those suffering from sleep apnea. I don’t want my patients to delay or ignore their treatment, so that is why I have devoted my practice to provide proper screening and treatment options for each patient and their necessary needs.
Outside of helping improve lives at my dental sleep practice in Brentwood, I'm also a co-chair of the MorningStar Sanctuary Domestic Violence Shelter. I've had the opportunity to help increase awareness about domestic violence and also have met inspiring people who have shared their personal stories with me and changed my outlook on many things.
I also enjoy spending time with my three kids and husband of 34 years, listening to music, playing scrabble, and making jewelry in my free time.
